Should I start using synthetic motor oil or stay with the regular 5-30 for my 2005 V6 Stang ? (47-K miles on it ) Please read on......

Here is why I ask : My local Ford dealer has a service special, 40-bucks gets you--oil change and filter using Motorcraft Synthetic oil, tire rotation, 17 point check-up , etc. Pretty good deal.

However, I have read that once you switch to synthetic oil you have to use that from then on. Is this accurate ?
Is synthetic worth the higher price ?

Much appreciated, gang.

its not that if you switch you must stay, its that you dont wanna switch back and fourth pick a brand and type and stick with it, persoanlly i use conventional oil.

then again i change my oil every 2000 miles.

That's not a bad deal but you can get motorcraft oil and a filter from walmart for under $20. If you have a jack and stands your tire rotation is free. The check ups are a joke, all it is is checking the lights, turn signals, horn, wipers, fluid levels, etc....its all very basic stuff anyone can do in a few minutes. I run motorcraft in my car currently but once I go F/I i'll prolly switch to Mobil 1.

I used to run a shop where almost all we did was change oil and give these (insert #) point check-ups. The main selling point the companies used was that synthetic oils never completely run all the way back down to the pan, so they always have a presence on the cylinder walls and such. Avoiding that quick metal on metal contact when you first start your motor. That and they don't break down as easily...But the price jump from conventional oil to a semi-synth like Motorcraft isn't much, usually under a dollar a quart, but full synthetics like Mobil 1 are like $6-7 a quart.

motor oil is a huge debated topic. always has been, always will. ford puts alot of study into what type oil should be used. if they thought full synthetic was better suited it would be in the owners manual, you can bet on that. brands of oil are like anything else, guys favor one over the other for whatever reason. heres the oil i use, ive used it for 35+yrs and my dad sold it for over 50 years. its been around since the early 1900`s and you`ll see banners around race tracks all over the country. i order it online, i buy a couple cases at a time and get free shipping, it gets dropped off at my door. i use motorcraft filters.
AmalieStore:: AMALIE PRO HIGH PERFORMANCE SYN BLEND 5W-30 (12 QUART CASE), Motor Oil, 160-75666-56
i save money doing my own service, and ya, there are cheaper oils, but i dont skimp on oil. i change mine every 3000 miles :yelpleased:

i use mobil 1 fully synthetic. some people like it, some people swear by royal purple. mobil 1 is cheaper and easier to find here so i use it. i've done it for 9 or 10 oil changes and i haven't had a problem. the average oil change costs me about 30 bucks for the oil and filter (of course labor is free) if you live near a discount tire co. they rotate tires for free. you can dispose of your old oil at any walmart (for free!)

i would recommend synthetic. i like the mobile 1 5w-30 and 40 bucks aint a bad deal at the dealership to get all that stuff done :bigthumbsup

DINO MOLECULES ARE IRREGULAR IN SHAPE, SYN MOLECULES ARE UNIFORM IN SHAPE BEING MAN MADE AND THEREFORE PERFORM BETTER AND HAVE LESS FRICTION AND DISIPATE HEAT BETTER, THUS BETTER PERFORMANCE AND LIFE. AMSOIL IS RATED THE BEST SYN. :bigthumbsup

famous quote time again

i love rpp in my rear end, but anywhere else i feel its a waste of money
when i went to oreillys to get rear end oil, i went to get the cheapest i could for the 500 mile break in and dump. turned out royal purple was the cheapest stuff they had :yelwacko:

if i was gonna run full synthetic( which i never will) i would be buying this brand
AmalieStore:: AMALIE ELIXIR FULL SYN 5W-30 (12 QUART CASE), Motor Oil, 160-75766-56
but i talked to my oil rep about it and he advised that our motors were not designed to use full syn. he recommended using just what ford says to use. now he could have tried to sell me $80 a case instead of $53 a case oil. syn-blend is the best of both worlds.

I only run Royal Purple in my car. The car feels totally different with it in my engine. I even tried the best syntec Penzoil has and it was terrible.
