Not sure if anyone has experienced this but when I turn the headlight/parking light switch on the temp gauge rises slighty. Anybody have any ideas why this may be happening...its more annoying than anything. It has to be something electrial thats causing it.

I have an 86 Capri that has the same problem, except all of my gauges (water temp, fuel, and oil pressure) seem to be affected. Like you I found that by turning on my headlamps it makes a differance. I was told that there is a voltage regulator on the cluster circuit board that can be replaced to correct this problem. I did install mechanical water temp and oil pressure gauges.

I wonder if these problems are related to the topic of regrounding the motor to the frame?

I notice the same thing on my 91. Turn the headlights on and the temp gauge rises slightly. I figured it was ground but I haven't tried anything yet. Like ghostdog said, the gauges lie!

Mine does the same thing when I turn my A/C on, as soon as I turn it on the temp gauge jumps up a bit and as soon as I turn it off it drops back, and it's not from the engine heating up from the A/C. It happens right away.

BRINGING THINGs BACK HERE GUYS.................

Well i have the same problem!! I turn my headlamps on while the car is OFF and the temp guage goes directly to the top................

and i mean all the way up.........

Did anyone ever figure out the problem?

Could be an aftermarket alternator feeding too much voltage into the System.

And... the gauges lie.
