Hello all - I am hoping that once I get all the kinks worked out of the used 2011 Mustang that I bought last November that I might be able to expect years of service. I only drive about 3K miles a year and the car had 83000 miles on it when I got it. Can anyone who has a high mileage Mustang (I'm thinking over 100K miles) tell me about your car and how its reliability has been for you. I love to see pictures too of other people's cars. Today a beautiful newer Mustang in a brilliant turquoise pulled up right next to me and gave his car the goose - what a great sound it had. Yesterday I saw one in a very bright kind of acid green that I don't think is a stock color because it was so iridescent - another beautiful Mustang - this one was a Fox body. I really admire a beautifully done car of nearly every variety. Even if it's not something that floats my boat, I can admire the skill and thought that went into making it a nice vehicle and the joy and appreciation it gives the owner.

Honestly, if there is nothing major wrong at 83,000 miles, you have a good one. Both of my s197s, from new, had major subsystems fail. The 2012 grenaded its manual trans without provocation at about 10,000 miles and my 2014 just had its electronic steering rack go tango uniform at 27,000 miles. The 14 was a no warranty cost straight out of my pocket and I'm not pleased. It's fixed now and steers better than it ever did so, something was a little off, right from the beginning. Ford told me to pound sand when I brought this significant safety issue to their attention and asked for help. I've had 5 Mustangs and a couple other Fords so, I'm a consumer they might have, maybe, wanted to keep happy but, nope.

2004 GT 40th Anniversary badged model. 4.6L V8, 230,000 mi. On the clock and running strong as day1 brand new.

Brakes, clutch (at 130,000 mi.), belts, hoses, thermostat, fluids, alternator, tires, spark plugs, and 1 pinion seal replacement. I don’t remember repairing anything else. That car is solid...

Driven hard but well maintained. Just passed it down to my younger brother.

I have other Ford V8s and 3 of them have over 150k and running strong.

I have two Mustangs, a 2001 3.8 six cyl. with a 5 speed manual and a 2014 5.0 GT 6 speed manual. I bought the '01 used when it had 115,000 miles showing. The actual mileage was probably a bit less since someone had replaced the stock 3.27 rear end with a 3.73, but there is no way of knowing just when it was done. I bought it from a young guy that had done some very poorly executed mods. They were lucky not to have burned it to the ground with the wiring job they did. They had also installed the wrong clutch and it had a bad strut and a failed front wheel bearing. I had the car for almost a month fixing things that he did wrong before I started driving it. Once I fixed the previous owner's mistakes the car has been remarkably trouble free, just normal maintenance. At the 250,000 mile mark # 6 cylinder showed low compression and it started to use some oil. Fifth gear sychro was also failing. I bought a low mileage [ 52,000 ] engine and transmission from LKQ [ a large salvage yard chain ] and replaced the original ones. I now have right at 400,000 miles on it and it still runs fine. It uses about a pint of oil every 4,000 miles between changes. It does have a few more squeaks and rattles, but both the interior and exterior still look good, the AC still works [ it did need a $20.00 electrical part from a salvage yard ] and it still has it's original starter and alternator. Second gear sychro is bad, but so long as you granny shift it works OK. I bought the '14 GT new right before the new S550's came out so the price was pretty good. I've made a few mods to it. Some functional and some cosmetic. I have just over 39,000 miles on it and so far it's been pretty much flawless. I do my own maintenance so the only times it's been to a dealer were to replace the recalled airbag and to program the track key. I don't know if it will have the same service life as the '01, but it's off to a good start.

I bought my 2012 GT (mods in my signature) in January 2013 with 3k miles on the ticker and it's been my daily driver ever since. I just crossed 140k miles, and as far as maintenance it's really just regular oil changes (synthetic oil, every 6-8k miles), new brakes and tires when they need it and that's about it. I live in PA and PennDOT loves using salt in the winter months but car wash visits every 2-3 weeks in the winter months seems to do enough to keep the rust away.

When I purchased ONX she had 8,500on the clock (may 2010). Never had any major issues at all. she now has 127K

Thanks for the input. I had a bunch of issues early on - new water pump, engine knocking after 3 weeks and Ford replaced it with a "recycled" engine with 25k less miles on it than the one it had when I bought it. Ford did a brake job on it right before I bought it and I'm having problems with that and taking it to someone else to look at. I've replaced the tires, had them put in a new battery and new plugs and wires when they did the engine swap. The engine seems great after the swap and tranny seems solid and working well. Once I get the brake issue resolved and replace the shocks and struts I'm hoping for a few trouble free miles. I really enjoy the car - I have not had a sporty car since my 20's when I had a bunch of different American muscle cars - 66 426 Hemi Charger, a whole assortment of different SS Chevelles mostly. I had full size 4 x 4's for the 30 plus years after that because I lived in Alaska and did lots of outdoor stuff. Now I'm in sunny New Mexico and it's car time again.

Bought my 2011 5.0 in November with 102k on the clock and immediately drove it home 1700 miles from Denver to Raleigh without any issues. Now it has 107k miles and it's been absolutely perfect. The only thing is that it may need new tie rod ends, but that isn't a big deal. Just got back from the drag strip with it and ran an 8.5 @ 88 in the 1/8th.

My 2010 GT has about 95K on it, including a few New England winters, and it is going strong and still looks and runs great. (except right now because it is covered with salt and road grime, yuck)

It got it used with 7,500 miles on it in 2010; overall it has been super reliable with only a few minor issues. It does not seem to mind road track days, where it spends a lot of time over 4,000 RPM and under extreme braking and/or cornering. If you call that "abuse" then it has seen a lot more abuse than the average street car, and it just keeps coming back for more. There might be something to that old cliche "a red line a day keeps the mechanic away" LOL

It has developed quite a few clunks and rattles lately, needs a bushing refresh I think. I am also starting to think about what the engine might need for major maintenance at 100,000 miles. I know it needs spark plugs, still on original plugs right now.

The transmission has always been a bit stiff when cold, and I do miss third once in a while; but I am still on the original clutch and the transmission generally works fine also.
