Complex Question

Here's a link to a page in your size:

https://www.tiresavings.com/tireShop.php?action=findCombined

In general, every tire is a tradeoff.

Soft compound = Low ET (and short lifespan, poor all weather traction)

Medium compound = not so great ET (and good lifespan, good all weather traction IF you get the All Weather tread pattern)

Hard compound = crummy ET (and great lifespan, good all weather traction, etc.

Exceptions to these rules:

Extremely expensive brand tires (Michelin, for instance) that manage to get excellent performance and lifespan, with just the teeeny problem that they cost more than a car.

I saw some tires in the low $100 range that would serve - you just need to pick some. NO all season radials are good track tires that I know of - not that you CAN'T run them, they just aren't optimized for "summer traction" like some other tires, much less drag radials of course.

If you don't mind cost and short lifespan, the Eagle F1 GS-D3's grab like there's no tomorrow on warm/hot pavement.

Thanks for the info. Im trying to find a happy medium between price, practicality, traction and hopefully better than this OE garbage Im running now. I spun the entire length of the 1/8 mi. last time I ran ( probably still had water on my tires but didnt do much better on my next run either). The summer tires would be kick a&#*! but I no idea what happens to summer tires when it hits 20 below zero. Im hoping to pick up a little more traction with a wider tire.

Just buy some hard compound tires for every day driving. Then buy some nice drag radials for the track. Just get 2 used rims and some new tires.

whatever tire carguy has... he pulled a 1.9x 60" on those street tires, with no tread left, lol... I think he had sumitomo HTZ or something liek that

I had Sumitomo HTRZ IIs, 245/45/17s From Tire Rack, $92.00each + shipping, Those are really great all around tires, I was amazed at how sticky with a "decent" burnout these tires would get, I mean they arent drag radials but they were really good, and honestly i cut the 1.97 60ft when they were almost bald, and for street tires thats when they suck for traction (street tire cars have the best compound early in tire life) Before i swapped over i cut a 1.9x i believe it was 3 times so it is possible for everyone once you figure launching point, mine was dumping clutch at 2grand and flooring it at the same time.

The only reason i switch to the nitto 555 extremes is because i got a killer deal on some 275/40s, i was originally going to stay with the sumitomos and go 275/40 but i couldnt pass up the deal.

Here is a copy of the link for my time slip.

Here is a Run i did vs my G/F on her Trans Am WS6, it was really muggy so the 1/4 time sucked but this was a 1.99 60ft run.

Thanks for the info. I just got my HTRIIs in but havent gotem on yet. I went with the 255 45 17s the look a little a wider but Ill see once their on the rims. Unfortunetly their also taller so I might lose a little gear till I wear them down. How low of a psi can you run in these things on the strip? Thanks for the reply,I guess I made a good choice! Cant wait to getem on!! P.S. What kind of track conditions did you have when you ran your 13.53@102 ? Im hoping to get 3.73s next month or so...Thanks!
