Hello.
I'm thinking of buying my first Mustang and I know what I like but not quite how to get it?
I need you guys to help me put a name on it.
I love the looks of the Cobra II and V8 is the only way to go.

What is the difference between a Cobra II and a regular Mustang?

To make it easier I include two pictures.
The first picture is the typical Cobra II and the second one is a regular fastback.
Looking at the rear end: The Cobra II has a spoiler/wing thingie that the regular mustang doesn't have.
Is that some form of addon or is it an integral part of the body?

Or how to make a 1975 Mustang with a V8 look like a Cobra II?
Sweden has some pretty messed up emissions rules and 1975 is the magic year when everything goes.

I had a Cobra II back in 1977. Really the differences are mainly cosmetic, although, you will see some of the models are a coupe versus the fastback(hatch) of the Cobra II and some other styles back then. But the hood scoop, rear spoiler and quarter window louvres were stock on the Cobra II as well as the striping. Also, the V8 was standard. In 1977 I believe there were only three color combos for the Cobra black w gold stripes (mine) , white w blue and white w red.

I found it to be very front heavy, rear end bounced around a lot and cornering was an adventure. It was not nearly as powerful as the early 70s, late 60s V8s but of course this can be modified.

Yeah, the engine is kind of week but that I can fix. :)
It's mainly the appearence that worries me.
A hood scoop should be fairly easy to fix.
Is the rear spoiler and quarter window louvres possible to retrofit to a 1975 Mustang Fastback?
The paint and stripes are not a problem.
The 1975 Mustang can be found with the same V8 so that should not be a problem.

Since I intend to tune the engine quite a bit I'll probably be redoing the entire rear end with new suspension and everything.

Good to know about the handling...

I think 75 thru 78 the body is exactly the same so retrofitting the louvres and spoilers etc likely is no problem.

Ok, now for the $1milion question...
Where can I buy the items that I need to retrofit?
I'm a no0b on Mustangs and I live in Sweden, that's why I'm like a 3yr old when it comes to this stuff.
Don't know anything about where to find the right parts in the U.S.

Oh, and to answer your other question the rear spoiler is not part of the body. Probably bolted on somehow. Same with the hood scoop.

Louvres are also attached somehow - either by tape or bolted through the glass. So if you can find spoiler, scoop, louvres you should be able to put them on the regular fastback.

Also, the V8 was standard.
Actually, the 2.3 was the "standard" engine in all Mustang IIs, even the Cobra II. But most dealerships and customers ordered their Cobra IIs with either the 2.8L V6 or the 302 V8.

The Cobra's total differences include the stripes, interior trim (including a plaque on the dashboard and the sport steering wheel being standard), spoiler, hood scoop Cobra grille emblem, either the lacy-spoke or slotted aluminum wheels, all were hatchbacks, window louvers were and option (and a pretty popular one).

They're getting hard to find, but even so, an easily repairable project Cobra II can be had for less than $1000 in most areas, the parts for them are a little harder to find, as not very many people are making them anymore. The stripe package is still in production through an aftermarket company (though I forget who) but the front and rear spoilers and the hood scoop are pretty much an Ebay or Junkyard find.

Not sure how this stuff compares to the original parts, but if you're not concerned about having ford parts you could try these...

That was awsome. :)
They have everything I need. Of course it'll be expensive but no one ever said building a car was cheap.

I might be selling my hood scoop soon, but i'd imagine shipping would be completely outrageous. Anyway, good luck w/your upcoming project :)

FYI They also sell the stripe/decal kits in case you don't get around to painting it.

ok, Step one completed. :)
I know it's doable and I know where to get the parts.
Now for the hard part... getting hold of the car.
I imagine it can take quite some time before the right car appears at a reasonable price.

How much do you suppose I should pay for a '75 fastback with the 302 engine?

o_O Thank you for such a wonderful resource for my Cobra II parts, I was having trouble finding parts; hood scoops, that front fender [mines all ruined], and my cars missing its glove box compartment, not to mention I really dont want to re-build my carbeurator so I can now purchase one off of there and just sell off my old one, or keep it for when I get the courage to touch it :D

Yeah; going back to looking for all of the parts I am gonna be needing, now my bank account is going to die. lol.

@Hefty:: They arent worth much, it also depends on the quality of the vehicle.. mine for instance needed a complete interior re-decoration, a new paint job and some bumps taken out of the exterior, the engine all runs good the only currently known problems are the battery (requires starter to start) and the clutch (is a '***** to use), but of course with old cars like these everything needs to be checked out and its best to rebuilt everything or tune it anyways, so I plan to have my engine and tranny rebuilt before I go driving my vehicle, and I plan to replace all the wiring while I do the interior and get a lot of the stuff fixed up and/or replaced.

At my vehicles condition I paid $1025, I got it off ebay, so if the one you pick up is close to mine in quality I dont suggest spending much more, especially since these vehicles dont pick up to much on full restoration.

They are pretty cheap. I got one for a C-6 transmission. One for $75.00 and my complete cobra with the stripes, louvers, scoop, and spoilers for $150.00. They had quite a few of them in Germany the last time I was there. But they are cruching them here. A friend of mine just crushed 3 of them.

I have found my car (I hope). :)
If all goes well I'll buy it on Saturday.
And recieve it a week later at most. (Getting it shipped home...)

It'll be expensive by your standards but cheap enough by Swedish standards. (Still expensive enough)

parts you may need
