Hi everyone,
One of my mods is to install an Axle-back exhaust system. My question or concern is, if it will pass state inspection because I don't know how loud it will be.

Have any of you with aftermarket exhaust systems, had issues come inspection time?

I mean it really depends on 2 main things. 1. How strict your area is on aftermarket mods. 2. How strict the inspector is.

Personally I have never had an issue. I have had everything from quite Magnaflows to moderate flowmasters to loud muffler delete with just a test pipe and tip for a muffler. Never had an issue with any.

Another one for you I have had tinted windows on almost all my cars. Sometimes they charge me the extra fee and sometimes not. Just depends on where you go and who you get.

In short though, I don't think you will have to worry about it. If you do though the good thing about our cars is it that it is as all bolt on so in around 30 min you can switch it back to stock if you have an issue.

I see your location says "North Shore" -- is that Boston?

I am in Massachusetts, and my car passes inspection with FRPP FR-500-S aka KR mufflers, which are fairly loud, but not super obnoxious muffler-delete loud. I have had the inspection guys tell me "that car sounds awesome" but other than that they haven't mentioned it.

I work for a Euro parts company and we've had customers complain about failing inspection in Massachusetts due to aftermarket exhaust. But it's a pretty small percentage and I know some guys who live in Mass with some pretty loud fox bodies that don't have any trouble getting inspections. I think it's all in who you know and not standing on it when driving by the police. I actually kind of like the stock exhaust tone. I might go with a Magnaflow eventually but when you drive 500 miles a week in a car it's nice to have it quiet.

I can't imagine that you would have trouble passing inspection with just an axle back. I have heard people say that Mass has one of the more strict emissions policies, but still....I would say you should be fine.
