I'll finally be taking delivery of my new to me GT this week! It was originally ordered with the appearance pack that included the quarter window louvers, side scoops and the CS style wing. I've never been a fan of taped on fake cosmetic parts so these need to be removed. What's the best way to tackle this job without damaging the paint? I've done molding removals in the past so my first thought is to take a heat gun and fishing line to it for removal, followed be adhesive remover then a good cleaning then wax. If anyone else has any suggestions I'd sure appreciate it.

Thanks!

Since no one responded lol welcome to afm once again and congrats and to be honest the way you had planned on doing it it the only way to do it . Just be careful around the paint . I personally love louvers gives it the old look but ethir way will look good

If it is the car in the picture, I think it looks great.:bigthumbsup

Your plan of attack is one of the better ones, so go for it. congrats on the new ride. What are you going to do with them once you remove them?

Id use some goo gone and fishing line. Had to take louvers like those off of my old one. Worked pretty good. Just let the goo gone soak in for 10 or so minutes before you start. Any left over residue you'll be able to rub off with your thumb. Looks great as is though.

Nice looking car! It's too bad to see those scoops and louvers go, because they really fit the car well.

If they really must go, heat will do the trick. You can also use some adhesive remover once you see some light between the part(s) and the body. Just be patient.

I actually ordered those same louvers and side scoops on my car and they are still on there pretty good. I plan on leaving them on. I like your back tail. I wanted to order a different tail but they told me it already came with a tail. That tail I have is the standard tail.

So I am curious if you ordered the car, you must have paid extra for the scoops and louvers, so possibly that was the only way to get the CS tail? Personally I would leave those louvers and scoops on there.

Haha, looks like I'm not in the majority opinion on this one, lol. It's not that they look bad at all, i just prefer the cleaner/ smoother look without em IMO. The previous owner ordered the car that way, I believe it was an available appearance package. I'll make sure to be careful removing the parts so I can resell them and put that money towards other mods, suspension and exhaust etc. Yes it is my car in the picture, it's being shipped to me in AZ from NC where I found an amazing deal I couldn't pass up. Even after shipping cost, I still come out way ahead of anything I found locally. Thanks for the tips!

I actually think they look good on your DIB car, but for some reason not so much on a black car. IDK, maybe when I finally see it in person I might like it. We'll see I guess.

Some thicker fishing line is what I used. The 2 sided tape to hold them on is strong but the line will cut through it and may leave some on the paint. I used my fingers to rub/peel the rest off the paint then used WD40 and a microfiber washcloth to get the rest off and NOT one scratch on the paint.

My 2012 has the factory appearance package and I toyed with removing the window louvers. Mine appear to be held on with velcro strips. If you look inside the louvers you may be able to see portions of the velcro - seems like I concluded there were about 6 segments on each side but I can't be sure.

I got used to mine and decided to leave them on.

I'm with you op. I had the dealer remove the scoops and louvers. The louvers are held on with velcro. The scoops use double sided tape. The tape was entirely intact on the scoops, so I'm guessing the dealer pried them off with help from a heat gun.

Put your fingers in the top of the center of the Louvers and pull, remove the tape of the window with a Razor blade, they are held on by 3M Velcro. As for the scoops, just do it with the car warm and cut them off with fishing line, most of the remaining tape will come off with just rubbing the tape with your finger and do a clean-up with something like Goof Off.

Yep.. the louvers just pull off. I clean my quarter windows every now and then and have removed my louvers multiple times. Once the louvers are removed, you will have heavy duty Velcro attached to the windows. I would think a heat gun and some sort of scraping device with a razor blade will remove the Velcro strips from the windows. Fishing string and a heat gun will remove the side scoops. They are stuck in on with 3M tape. thumbsup3.gif
