Ok, so I have a totaled 97 Cobra, everything is still there. After we get the engine out I plan on putting in a set of forged rods and pistons in and maybe have the heads rebuilt, maybe cams depending on the cash.

Ok, so I plan on using the under hood harness from the Cobra, My question,,,,,, is the indash harness the same as a GT??? My car is a 98 GT, I was hoping to just use the under hood harness and keep the dash harness as is just so I dont have to tear everything apart, of course I will be plugging in the stock Cobra computer until I can get it retuned.

In your case, it would be best to swap the harness, ECU and gauge cluster from the Cobra. Because of the PATS, you have to match up the ECU and gauge cluster, or get a tune that disables the PATS. All of the other wiring should be fine from your GT.

This is a better option for you, because of the IMRCs. If you keep your wiring harness, you'll have to run the wiring for the IMRCs.

There's a few other options, but since you have the complete car for parts, I think that's your best option.

cool

Yea after reading a little bit about the IMRCs I think you are right, I havent really looked under the dash yet, but is it really that bad swapping out the indash harness. I have the cluster so thats no a problem either.

I was just getting my car to feel quick, not fast but pretty quick for a NPI motor, then I drove my cousins 09 ZO6 the other night, after 38gs at MTI and 810RWHP later, (yes 810RWHP), 940 crank HP, I dont think I will ever be happy again.

Hopefully with my T Trim, some head work and cams I may be happy for a while, :)

I don't think you should touch the underdash harness at all. The engine harness is seperate/

ok

Ok, so use the Cobra computer of course, the guage cluster, and the engine harness....

Do I need to change the engine harness all the way to the computer or just to where it unplugs at the firewall under the hood???
This is where I a little confused. I havent seen it yet but I thought that the underdash harness was part of the engine harness coming from the computer. I was thinking to use the cobra harness that I would have to change the dash harness too.....

This would be great if I only have to use the harness from the engine to the computer and not the indash stuff, to much hassle.

You should be able to use just the engine harness, but I need to make sure that the wiring is in the GT for the IMRC pinouts. Give me a day or so to check the pinouts, and I should be able to tell you whether you can plug it straight in, or whether you'll have to add a few wires for the IMRCs. Either way, it'll be easier than rewiring the entire dash. I'm sure you can handle taking a couple short wires out of the Cobra, and plugging them into a connector that's already there, if necessary. I think all the wiring is there, but I'd like to check the pinouts to make sure. The only one that's possibly not there in the harness from the ECU to the firewall is the IMRC wiring. I'll check on that, and get back with you within the next few days.

I apologize for bumping old threads but I have a similiar issue at the moment with my own car. After scowering the internet this is the closest I have come to finding an answer. Can either of these two guys PM me I have a few questions or someone who has an idea about this.

Question is whether harness through the dash is the same when changing engines or do you have to replace both the harness with block at the passenger side of the firewall and the harness thrugh the dash or just the bay harness. 98 3.8 to 97 4.6L
