Before you begin reading, thanks.

Just to start this title is a statement and not a question. So first off:
Did you try searching on the forum?
Yes, 99% of the posts I read where people asking if they should and 'oh im a college student and I want to do a budget build'. I want to build a 4.6. To top that off any posts that closely resemble an answer creates an endless loop of try searching the forum.

You know it is more expensive and you could save more money by buying a new engine?
Yes, but I want to build my 4.6. I want to take my mustang to car shows and show people my work. If that was the case I would just buy a new car. It isn't about just spending money but truly being involved in a hobby.

Hopefully that cleared the air. Now as to what I currently have and what is the plan. Also this is my first engine build.

ALBUM of shortblock purchased: engine build - Album on Imgur

I am going to first remove the engine from my current mustang which was running really rich and scorched one of my cylinders and broke a piston. From there I will disassemble and review if the heads where damaged and what all needs to be replaced.

I purchased a shortblock from a shop whose customer changed plans. They already turned the crank and had a machine shop clean most of everything out. Their advice was to just have the main bearing and rod bearings done by a shop. I would appreciate others advice for this part too. Also at which point when I am reassembling the engine would I send it to the machine shop to have this done. Or would I send it first to have this work done and then reassemble it myself.

As far as my heads( 2 valve) go, should I upgrade, this is a Forced induced mustang?

Images 7 and images 8 what is the correct order of install from back to front?

So is there a resource online I can go to to guide through this engine rebuild?

I completely built my own 4.6 2v engine and was asked why by everyone... The answer was simple. "Why not?" All I ever see when I search forums is people who have little to no experience in something so they post about what to do to fix something or get somewhere such as a certain power level. I am not saying that this forum is that way but other forums I have searched everyone is like that.

Before I get off topic, I took my block down to a bare block and honed it out myself. First time I have ever done this and it wasnt that difficult. I borrowed a piston ring filer and file fit my new piston rings. I used manley rings, probe forged pistons, eagle forged rods, ARP rod bolts and ARP main studs and bolts, Cleavite main and rod bearings, Eagle forged crankshaft, and alot of cleaning and scrubbing the old block down after honing. Trickflow twisted wedge heads are expensive but let me be one of the first to say that they are worth it!!!

Also trickflow camshafts

Edelbrock victor jr intake manifold, edelbrock 3848 adapter, Accufab 90mm throttle body, BBK fuel rail, 39 lbs injectors, ford racing oil pump, 90mm lightning MAF sensor and a aeromotive 325 lph fuel pump. I have some other goodies but you got the idea off my car build. On just engine dyno pull alone I did 300rwhp. On a 150 shot of nitrous I did 432 rwhp and 553 ft/lbs torque.

I am one to support the 2v build my friend and will be happy to assist you in anyway you need to build the bottom end.

Thank you, this was the kindve info I need. Will continue to use this thread to keep anyone else who is in a similar situation updated on the build.

I'm glad you are doing this. Our forum needs more builds like this and what Steve did...I'll be anticipating the updates. I hVe no direct experience...all I have is "I read this here and I read that there...", or "my dad did this with his build..." So I won't offer any advice. Just looking forward to reading. Good luck!

Jon I hope you didnt take any offence to what I said about people posting lol. That wasnt meant to sound like me being an a$$. But I know you have seen exactly what I am talking about someone posts something online to ask for help then the immediate response is buy a new engine or supercharge it. And the ironic thing is the people who post these responses have no experience in the topic...

For those who are interested in the step by step instructions on how to build, or replace, parts on your 2v engine please let me know and I can print off the instructions and scan them back into computer and create a pdf file of them. I have Alldata and Mitchell On Demand which are computer software big garages use to show the techs how to do anything on any car and provides labor times as well as diagnostic flowcharts. So when I post something on here I dont claim to be an expert but I can get you whatever you need or are looking for off the computer software I have and use.

That would be really appreciated. I am currently using my Chilton manual and I have the old engine removed from the car. At this point I am stuck on a head question, but not to get to far off topic, any information I could get on the proper rebuild procedures will be appreciated.

Does the chilton show rebuild specs and procedures on the engine? I can send you the info if you wish from what I have. Send me a pm with your email address and I will take the time to get it all gathered up and send to you as soon as i can. I am getting ready to do my rebuild again now as well.

Could i get a pdf of these instructions? Ive been doing some research and I think i decided i am going to do a build instead of dropping a new one in. Those instructions would be a big help

Thanks
