all the torque converters even aftermarket for the 4r70w have a drain plug. I have changed several of them.

The shudder on them is normal right from the factory. it can be mostly eliminated with a tuner by adjusting shift points and line pressure etc... A good shift kit or jmod is also a great upgrade for this tranny.

and I am sure new fluid helped as well beings your had that many miles on it

the lollipop is just a plug from factory thats knocked out or in I should say when the tranny dipstick tube is shoved in the tranny.

It should be yellow and it has a black O-ring on it. It is used for what ^^^ said.

Not from what I have read. And I am certain mine did not have one either. I know the '00 had it, and I think the '01 and maybe '02 had it, but not '03 and '04.

The shudder is caused by debris (metal shavings, dirt, etc.) in the oil, which hinders the torque convert from locking up as it should right away when it enters 3rd gear. Adjusting shift points might help, but not line pressure unless you go with a shift kit or JMOD at the same time. Yes, it might help for a little, but it's not healthy over time for the stock valve body unless you modify it (aka. JMOD).

Of course, I believe it when you say you have worked on several of them, but I know mine does not have a drain plug, and I have heard about many others that does not have it either on their '03 and '04 Mustangs.

Just curious, did you check out the link I provided in my thread? If not, I highly suggest you, and everyone else for that matter, to check it out and read it. It is written by former Ford engineer, Jerry Wroblewski, who took part of building the original 4R70W. It is also him that came with the JMOD, the link includes detailed instructions on how to perform the JMOD for those that are interested.
I am telling you that my 01 gt had the shudder from day 1. I have done a lot of research on this tranny and have done the jmod in mine and a few others I like it all though a lot of guys do not. they however have probably never ran it.

my 01 was cammed, sprayed with a 125 shot and then supercharged with 4;10's and this tranny held up through all.

they are very tough....

I myself have never run across a torgue converter for the 4r70w that did not have a drain plug but I have not seen them all neither.
