So.......our previously owned 2011 Mustang has hood struts (which is way cool). Thing is, I was under the hood again today to mess with the front turn signal lamps (ongoing battle actually). But I noticed that the passenger side strut had crushed the windshield washer tube apparently between the strut brace on the hood and the strut itself. Last time I was under the hood, I replaced the little clamp that was around the flexible part of the tube in the hole in the hood that was meant for the push in clamp (which you can see in top pic). Maybe that was a mistake.
So.....for those of you whom have done the hood strut/hood prop delete, what did you do with the windshield washer tube or have you had similar issues?
Here is what I ended up doing with mine this evening and seems to work okay. The rigid piece of tube goes into the fender well hole when closing the hood. It rolls over the top of the strut brace attached to the engine bay. I'll be keeping an eye on it from now on, but this was the best cure I could come up with for now (and that all took about 45 minutes of trial and error with testing).

Try removing one end of the strut and routing the tubing on the behind it?
That's where it was when it got pinched actually (between the strut and the hood bracket)....because it coils up when the hood closes. I just re-routed it like you see in the pics.

Mine got crushed routed like you now have it. There is another type of hood strut that attaches midway up the fender so it never comes near the washer tube. I'm thinking of changing to that style. It doesn't have any type of mount bracket either.

Interesting.
I've been digging in the archives here actually and comparing my pic with what someone described back in a 2012 thread about the lower bracket for these struts. Apparently (from what I gathered out of that article), I should try swapping the driver and passenger side lower mounts so the lower ball of the struts is at the front instead of the rear as in my pictures. That would take care of the part of the bracket forward of the hold down bolt from being toward the front of the car and more out of the way of where the washer tube goes inside the fender well.
Other than that, I haven't found any other mention of the washer tube getting crushed besides you and me (yet).
I'll be swapping those lower mounts soon to see how that works. The other thread I mentioned also said that the bracket won't be pulling away from the fender well as seen in my pics. It should be straight against the fender well.
I'm still going through this previously owned Mustang and I must say.....I'm learning a lot, and fixing things as I go (or making them right as the case may be).

Here's my thread and someone posted the other version I was talking about. Interesting idea about changing the mounts. I might try that as well.
I actually did this today with my wife's help holding up the hood. Swap took about ten minutes side to side (disconnected the top ball joint and left the bottom brackets on the struts).
I still tested out the location and interference issues with the windshield washer tube, and even though it turned out better, I still had to tie wrap the tube to where it would coil out of the way of the strut. I am happy with the results however.
Passenger side, driver's side, and my washer tube pics in that order.
Compare to before pics. Think about that passenger side lower bracket in the before pic crimping the tube since the location where it goes through the fender wall is in the same location.

I had those style struts at first (MRT, garbage IMO) and then I switched to the Redline Tuning longer ones, all the clearance in the world now.

Well, better than the old hood prop by far. We bought this Mustang used. Struts already installed is a good thing for us newbies. I've got the hood prop on my '05 Durango and it's in the way for the DIYer for sure.
I'm currently working on the exterior lighting on ours. Other amenities will come in due time. At least I take comfort in knowing that I did not buy garbage......someone else did and forwarded it to us. One thing at a time, and certain things in due time. When these struts give out, I'll know where to look. Sometimes a failure is the best reason to upgrade. I have no idea how long these hood struts have been on. I did correct the original installation however. I like learning more about our Mustang. I like driving it even better. That's what makes me happy....no matter what the previous owner installed that was crappy. (hey! that rhymes!).
Thanks for the input.

Redline avoids all these problems and just plain work, right?

+1 for the redlines.

Got it! When they need replacing I'm going with the Redlines. This garbage should last me a little bit before I have to worry about getting something better. Previous owner saved us in the short term. At least I have something functional until then, Thanks for all of the input.

I put a hood strut kit on my son's 06 from Down's Ford. The passenger side has a notch cut into the top to route the washer hose through it. It was also the most inexpensive one I found. i found it on e-bay.

Have to agree on the Redlines. Not one problem with them.

I've already asked this question in another thread, but I have a set of struts like these and the struts don't have enough power to hold the hood up.
This is not a fault of the struts, as they are off another application.
I want to have the struts regassed to a higher pressure but need to know what that pressure is.
Can anyone help me?

I like the design of the struts on that green car, but would never consider the ones that locate into the round hole further forward along the hood frame. This is not a strong point of the alloy hood, which reiterates why Ford haven't fitted struts or springs in the first place. And the reason why I want the minimum workable pressure for my struts.

I came across a set of Steeda hood struts yesterday online for $105. I may think about this for upgrade when these get weak.

I've never heard of re-gassing struts (not that it's not commonly done). I know cold weather kicks them, but I'm thinking basic pneumatics with a closed cylinder. I figure the max pressure would depend on the cylinder diameter and the amount of gas it can hold in order to lift and support the weight. If you overcharge a cylinder it would just simply blow the seals. If one could get struts recharged, then why would anyone buy new struts?
