Since my last oil change my oil life monitor has been stuck on 100%. I'm almost due for my next oil change now. I have tried resetting it a couple times and I even disconnected the battery to see if I could reboot it. I tried to adjust the percentage by using the instructions in the manual and nothing, still says 100%.

The car is way past warranty and it really isn't a big deal if this doesn't work but it has worked fine up until now. Anyone have an idea how to jump start it?

Looks like you never have to change your oil!!! Try keeping the battery disconnected all night. Or ateast a few hrs. If that doesn't work take it to a dealership and see if they can play with it for a minute. If it's a quick fix it'll prlly be free.

I only disconncted the battery for a few minutes. I'll try disconnecting overnight and see if that helps. I'll let you know in a few days.
 
I'm having the same issue. 2012 V6, It just kinda froze at 43% @ 62K miles. I thought that it would start again once it reset it after the next oil change but no, it's just stuck on 100% now. I tried a few things to "jump start it" but for the most part I change it between 5k and 7.5k anyway so whatever. I didn't really trust it anyway.

I got a question though, does anyone know if these things work on a sensor or is it a computer algorithm or whatever? It would be nice to know what the hell it up with it.
 
I don't think it has a sensor...I believe it is more of an algorithm that measures time and engine temp. I would bring it to the dealer and see if they'll re-flash it. I think mine did this once but ain't sure...I do it early so it doesn't matter enough to me to bring it in. Key words were think and once.

They work on several sensors such as the crank and cam sensors. Also the main computer. They detect total revolutions, and rpm at any given time, even oil temp plays into it. Off of all the data they get your oil life %. I personally don't care for the systems because I don't believe off time is considered. So say you don't run your car all winter even though the oil is clean it may have begun to break down yet the life is still 100% . If that makes any sense. Hope this helped.

In my experience I've never found ANYthing at a dealer to be free!!

I think I've put about as much effort into this "problem" as I plan on. It's not a big deal if it doesn't work since I have never let it get close to telling me it's time to change the oil. I have changed it at 10,000 km intervals and plan on continuing to do so.

If disconnecting the battery has fixed it, great. If not, unless someone can tell me I'm doing the car harm by not having it looked at I will leave it as is. I agree with the previous post that a dealer doesn't do anything for free and I don't plan on spending money fixing something I haven't been using. I only reset it so it didn't keep warning me to get the oil changed.
 
You mean some of you guys actually look at that oil life monitor ? All
I ever look at is the odometer reading and the oil on the dip stick.

Working in car service you'd be surprised how many people rely on their cars to tell things. I would never use that particular feature myself but some people do.

Ive even run into people who don't even think you have to check the oil, let alone change it. I guess not every one took technical courses when they were in school.

oh well, it takes all kinds.
All the more reason to be somewhat reserved, when you are decide to purchase a used car.:smartass:
